The Beginning of Spring 2009

Hi y'all-

Today was Bid Day with my sorority! As a Sigma Rho Chi (recruitment counselor), I got to give out all of the Bid cards to the women in my small group. Every new member opened her bid at once and then we all went out to spend the rest of the day with our respective chapters. After super fun pictures (I put up the new pledge class below), we took all of our new members to get "fro yo" and then went to this place where we painted ceramic objects. (Art is not my specialty, but it was fun to try and be creative.) It was so great to have the one "last hurrah" before classes start tomorrow morning. I have an 8:00 am class, so I don't get to sleep in, but it's only because I'm an engineer. Since it's the first day, we should only be going over each syllabus, so class will be pretty short. This upcoming weekend I am going on retreat with Torero Board (AKA orientation team board) so we can start planning for next fall's first year student orientation. Woo!

Here's the new ADPi's! Aren't they awesome??

Cheers!

Sorority Recruitment!

Hi everyone!

I'm back at USD for sorority recruitment. This year, I am a Sigma Rho Chi, which means that I serve as a recruitment counselor and help the potential sorority women chose a chapter that is right for them. USD has six sororities on campus (see the photo) and they are all wonderful!

We had a speaker come in today to talk to us about recruitment. USD holds sorority recruitment four days before the spring semester starts. All interested women go to events for all six chapters, and then decide which chapters they prefer the most. I love this system because the women are exposed to all of Greek life and get a taste of all chapters before they choose one. Tomorrow, all of the Sigma Rho Chis are going on retreat to learn more about recruitment and bond with each other. I'm really excited to go on retreat with sorority women from every chapter to meet and bond with new people. After recruitment is over, I will write about it a little bit more.

Cheers!
